Another Microsoft update
What’s in Windows Rights Management Client 1.0? I’m thinking it could be a new patent breach, as we know Microsoft signing and crypting technologies belong to someone else.
I didn’t install it, as the download file name contains the infamous DRM letters. As I recall, there was an add-on for Internet Explorer in order to consume crypted HTML (of course, only Office 2003 can output this crazy stuff). Didn’t give it a chance either.
Let’s say you’re an Microsoft fanatic. You install this update in order to view the most incompatible HTML or to play some weird Microsoft-only media files. Gates is happy, more clients for this technology means there will be an increase in Office, Windows or Visual Studio sells. But if you are using Windows 9x, you need an older add-on for Active Directory. You can get it from the CD. Which CD? The DSClient for Windows 95 and Windows 98 is available on any Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, or DataCenter CD-ROM. It is impossible to search for this CD on p2p and not find it. Or you may ask your granma, maybe she has one.
Whose interest is for me to install the “recommended update”? Shouldn’t DSClient be available for download if this add-on really needs it? Couldn’t the download include it?
