IrDA and Nokia
Finally I’ve tested my (old for now) Nokia 7110 with an infrared serial connection.
I managed to send a "file" to the Windows 2000 PC via wireless link, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the file. Everything else appeared fine, as Windows reported that the PC is connected to "Nokia 7110 computer".
I tried Nokia PC Suite. Nokia says it is working only on newer phones, but it also includes a feature to transfer numbers from 7110. It downloaded To-Do’s and Contacts, but saved them in so-called CSV files. CSV stands for comma separated values, but the stuff that I got from the phone was tab-separated. Importing those CSV files in Outlook was a sad failure.
I’ve also downloaded from Nokia a special edition of an old app, bought by Nokia for limited licenses for 7110 users. It can download meetings only from phone, and it was keen to save them as Schedule+ 7.5 files. No, thanks, what use would I have?
Why did Nokia bother to add the infrared connection, when they don’t give you the tools?
