Kill the Nero Scout
Nero 7 comes with an annoyance called Nero Scout, another bloatware pretending to search your files. There is no way to not install it or to really uninstall it. Ahead, the producers of Nero, will tell you how to hide it, but not how to remove it. So how to remove it?
This advice has been put together by gathering informations from multiple websites and I believe it is an exhaustive method, but bear in mind that this is an unsupported method, and the author, Microsoft and Ahead have no liability for things that may go wrong.
First, one needs to stop it. Follow Microsoft’s indications on how to disable a service by using the Services management console, but instead of Messenger, you should look for and disable NMIndexingService.
Then follow Microsoft’s indications on how to disable startup items by using msconfig. Look for a Startup item called NMBgMonitor and disable. When asked, choose not to reboot (Exit Without Restart), as we are not done yet.
Go to Start -> Run and type in the box regsvr32 /u "%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll". Press OK, and again OK when prompted.
Last step is to delete from the registry the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace \ {3D6BE802-FC0D-4595-A304-E611F97089DC} (if you are lost, use this guide from Microsoft on how to remove a registry key).
Then reboot. Your computer should be cleaned. You can take the extra step of removing or renaming the files NMBgMonitor.exe and NMIndexStoreSvr.exe from the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\
